THINK pink next time you hit the shops for your beachwear and know you are helping a worthy cause.
The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) has released a new range of pink gear that is essential for beach goers.
From sarongs, beach towels and thongs to hats and visors, the NBCF range provides all summer accessories.
There is also a range of men's, women's and children's apparel, including polo shirts with the pink ribbon logo.
Proceeds will go towards the NBCF's research programs into the prevention and cure of breast cancer.
Since the NBCF was established in 1994, more than $55 million has been awarded to 230 research projects across every state and territory to improve the health and wellbeing of those affected by breast cancer.
Sunbury resident Emma Petrie, 29, a volunteer with the NBCF since May last year, will be wearing the new clothing range to support the foundation.
Following the death of her mother from breast cancer in 2005, and a friend's diagnosis last year, Emma decided to lend a hand for a cause close to her heart.
The State Government has announced $15.2 million funding for new research projects.
To mark World Cancer Day last Thursday, Health Minister Daniel Andrews visited the Monash Cancer Centre and announced funding for 10 new cancer research projects as part of Victoria's $150 million Cancer Action Plan.
"This $15.2 million boost represents the single largest investment for cancer research made by the Victorian Cancer Agency since it began in 2006," he said.
This year, World Cancer Day focused on cancer prevention and strategies that reduce the risk of cancer through simple measures such as quitting smoking, lowering alcohol intake, reducing sun exposure and maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle.
