GISBORNE coach Ty Elliott and his players are licking their wounds after being outplayed after half-time by a fired-up Kangaroo Flat at Gardiner Reserve on Saturday.
In the upset of the round in the Bendigo Football League, the Bulldogs struggled to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
The board told the tale of woe: 8.8 (56) to 12.9 (81).
The premiership aspirant managed only three goals in the second half.
Heart and soul Ollie Messaoudi battled hard to lift Gisborne and received good support from Grant Baseggio, Matthew McKenzie, Daniel Favaro, Tom May and Ryan Webster.
Gisborne remains in third spot on the ladder despite the unexpected loss.
Elliott will have his players breathing fire when the Bulldogs host Sandhurst at Gardiner Reserve this Saturday.
Kyneton's season goes from bad to worse. The bottom-of-the-ladder Tigers copped a fearful 208-point defeat at the hands of Eaglehawk at Canterbury Reserve. They managed only 7.5(47) to 39.21 (255).
The ladder is: South Bendigo (40 points), Golden Square (40), Gisborne (36), Eaglehawk (28), Kangaroo Flat (28), Sandhurst (24), Castlemaine (16), Maryborough (12), Strathfieldsaye (12), Kyneton (4).
